Cold Spring Fire Company Visits Local Schools

by Kathleen Spinelli

Almost every kid in Cold Spring was taught how to "Stop, Drop and Roll" during Fire Prevention Week, thanks to the volunteers at the Cold Spring Fire Company.

At Community Nursery School, Dan Dan the Fireman (Dan Valentine), Lillian Hanson and Pat O’Dell visited the 3 and 4-year-olds and taught them fun and informative fire safety basics.

The volunteers also visited Haldane School, and presented different programs to various age groups. Dan said, "We went to teach these kids "Stop, Drop and Roll, and they already knew it." Apparently, the elementary kids paid attention when they were in nursery school!

Dan Valentine visiting the Community Nursery School and talking with potential future firefighters, Christopher Morini and Elizabeth Casparian.

Haldane students were given an assignment of planning a fire escape route in the home. As an incentive, each class with 100% participation will win an ice cream party, courtesy of the firehouse.

To further fire prevention week awareness, the North Highlands Fire Department held a Community Day for residents last weekend, and handed out fire safety items to children in attendance.

Kudos to these volunteers, who not only answer the fire calls at all hours, but give their best to the community’s children as well.
