Councilman Hosmer Outlines His Platform

"I believe long-term planning is a must for Philipstown. I will continue to provide it. Ours is one of the few Towns that has land available for both commercial and residential development. The Comprehensive Plan Committee, now being established, will have to be pro-active, not re-active in designing desirable uses for this undeveloped land.

"As Councilman for 6 years, I have always believed in the benefits of sharing services among adjacent municipalities. We have done this in the past; for instance, the Philipstown Highway Department did the backhoe work for the new Nelsonville park. We will continue this policy in the future; again for instance, we are talking with Putnam County about sharing use of a naw salt shed for more efficient winter road care.

"I think there are areas in which our relationship with New York State government can be improved. High on this list is getting the State Legislature to permanently repeal tax exemptions on State-owned property. As of now, we do receive some State money in lieu of taxes on the State park land in the Town, but it is at the discretion of the State.

"I think the Roads Report produced by the talented and knowledgeable people appointed to that Committee will be the basis for the development of a Comprehensive Road Maintenance Program in the very near future.

"Finally, it is my firm belief that local government works best when there is active participation by the citizens of our community working with their elected representatives on issues of importance to all of us. With trust on all our parts, we can get a lot done."
