Haldane Elementary School Teachers Jean Cendali and Lisa Maher were awarded grants by the Learning Foundation of Putnam-Northern Westchester. The teachers and Dolores Bayer, Principal, were honored at an awards reception at Reader’s Digest Headquarters in Chappaqua. Thirty-Three mini-grants were awarded for innovative educational programs.
Jean Cendali’s grant will be used to create a local history quilt to tie-in. with the 4th grade study unit. The students will study local points of interest and use them to design an original quilt that will be displayed in the school.
Lisa Maher’s project will create a puppet/literature center in the library. The center will include a puppet stage, books, puppets, story board and story telling kits. The project was designed to help increase primary students’ interest and involvement with literature.
