The Putnam County Department of Health is sponsoring a free Household Hazardous Waste Cleanup Day scheduled for October 16th from 9 am to 1 pm (rain or shine) at the Putnam County Health Department, 1 Geneva Road, Brewster. Putnam County residents will be provided with an opportunity to safety dispose of toxic material such as; household cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, oil (not water-based) paint, and automotive solvents. Disposal items will only be accepted if they are labeled and identifiable. Items which will not be accepted are water-based paints (latex), tires or any materials from commercial establishments.
Household products for cleaning, gardening, maintenance, or hobbies are safe when used and stored correctly. Improper storage or disposal of these wastes pose a health risk to residents and their families. The Cleanup Day provides a way to remove toxic products from homes in an environmentally safe manner.
To get to the Cleanup Day take Route 84 to Exit 19, Make left on to Route 312. Make first left on to International Boulevard, Geneva Road is second right. Look for the green and white signs on the Route. Call the Putnam County Health Department at (914) 278-6130 with questions about the Event and how to register. If you are not pre-registered you will not be allowed to participate in the event.
