On October 7, at the regular monthly meeting of the Philipstown Senior Citizens Club, a slate of names for offices to be filled for the year 2000 was presented to the membership for their consideration and approval.
The slate consisted of Parge Sgro, President; John Turco, Vice President; Mary Merando, Secretary; Helen Harra, Treasurer; and Mary Ann McDonald, Recording Secretary. Current President Rose Daly presented the names and they were all approved - the secretary cast one vote to confirm.
Also at this meeting, positions for trustees were presented as follows: Martin Vespo, three-year term; and Sally Donoghue for a one-year term. These were also approved and elected.
Their terms will begin on January 1, 2000. Prior to the start of the business meeting, Mr. Robert Cuomo from the Office of the Aging spoke about emergency care provided in Putnam County. First there are the Ambulance Corps - which are volunteer. Then there are the paramedics - advanced life support, who respond when a patient is in a serious life-threatening situation, prior to being transported to the hospital.
This ALS is not a volunteer corps, so whatever fee is charged is the responsibility of the patient.
The presentation was very informative and many questions were asked. Mr. Cuomo anwered all questions to everyone’s satisfaction. Pamphlets describing the services were passed out to members.
