For the second consecutive year, residents of the Field Holy Comforter Nursing Home made the Thanksgiving Holiday brighter for needy families of Peekskill and surrounding communities. Once again, they provided baskets and packages of food for the holiday meal which are distributed through Hudson River HealthCare/Peekskill Community Health Center.
The entire project was initiated last year, and this, from their own sense of altruism. Seniors of the Nursing Home organized and promoted the food drive on their own, collecting from families of residents, visitors, staff and staff themselves. In addition, they donated their own money so that the packages could include gift certificates from the Grand Union supermarket. Upon completion, they put the baskets together and included decorations to make their gift more festive.
The residents conduct this drive twice each year - at Thanksgiving and at Easter.
