Haldane Elementary Elects Student Council

Students who were interested in running for Elementary Student Council offices completed several steps. Nominees attended a speech workshop, practiced their speeches and made posters. The culmination of the campaign was an assembly, during which the candidates presented their speeches to all students in fifth and sixth grade. The students who participated in the election campaign were: Jana Barcavage, Adam Beard, Hannah Bozik, Sarah Egan, Natalie Ely, Nick Ely, Carly Filmanski, Brittney Fleming, Kelly Giachinta, Kylie McConville, Savannah O’Malley, Alex Milner, Mica Parker, Richard Pidala, Lily Rubino, Maia Gallagher-Siudzinski, Matt Shatinsky, Robbyn Spinelli, Meghan Spratt, and Billy Thom.

Student Council Elections were held on November 8, 2000 offiicers for the 20002001 year are: Billy Thom & Richard Pidala - President, Lily Rubino & Meghan Spratt - Vice President, Jana Barcavage & Savannah O’Malley - Secretary, and Robbyn Spinelli - Treasurer.

Additionally, the following students were elected by their homeroom classes to serve as class representatives: Natalie Ely, Lauren Merritt, Alex Milner, Ally Lebron, Jennifer Lombardo, Maia Gallagher- Siudzinski, Jake Costigan, Marissa Gannon, Luis Carchi, Michelle Cotennec and Katie McConville.

The Elementary Student Council’s first activity was a Thanksgiving Food Drive, completed in conjunction with the High School Student Council, and the Philipstown Rotary. During the month of December, the Elementary Student Council plans to decorate for the holidays, hold a theme day for students in grades Kindergarten through Six, and complete a community project. Ms. Julia Marchinkoski is the advisor.
