Philipstown Garden Club Presents Juried Flower Show

Pictured here is the winning arrangement created by Martha Lou Anders for the Philipstown Garden Club's last flower show staged in 1999.

The Philipstown Garden Club will be presenting a juried flower show and horticultural exhibition on Friday, September 14, and Saturday, September 15 in the program room of the Desmond Fish Library. The show will be open to the public from 2pm to 4pm on Friday, and from 10am to 5pm on Saturday.

The show’s theme, "Beyond Our Horizon," will feature interpretations of our universe and solar system by over twenty-five entrants. The five entry classes, which are to be evaluated by official judges from the Garden Club of America, are "Blast Off," an interpretive design expressing the launching of a space craft, "The Solar System," consisting of several miniature arrangements suggesting specific planets, "Moonlight Serenade," an exhibition table reflecting the sentiments that moonlight might evoke, "Reaching for the Stars," a freestyle arrangement of any contemporary design, and "Back to Earth," a category limited to novice exhibitors and consisting of an interpretation of our planet’s bounty celebrated in an arrangement of fruit, vegetables, flowers and foliage. In addition to the flower arrangements, there will be horticultural entries in six different classes.

The coordinators of this year’s show are Mrs. Christopher Fadden and Mrs. George Templeton. In preparation for the show, several workshops have been hosted by Mrs. Curtis Anders, Mrs. Betsy Briggi, Mrs. Elizabeth Todd Healy, Mrs. Pat Kohler. Mrs. Gabriel Levinson, Mrs. Edward Preusser, and Mrs. George Templeton, all experienced floral arrangers and growers.
