Edie McCoy Meeks In Race For Town Council Seat
Edie McCoy Meeks has announced her candidacy on the Republican ticket for a position on the Philipstown Town Council.
"Each member of the Philipstown community should be listened to and their opinion valued no matter what their party or affiliation. As a member of the Council, I hope to represent all the people with fairness and common sense."
Edie has been an active member of the Philipstown community for 29 years. She believes that the next four years will be extremely important for the people of Philipstown.
Edie Meeks lives in Garrison. As a Registered Nurse, she worked at Butterfield Memorial Hospital for 18 years, until its closure. She has served on the Vestry of St. Philips Church, the Board of Directors of the Garrison Art Center and of the Old Road Society and as President of the Philipstown Garden Club.
Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors of the Vietnam Women’s Memorial Project and, as a veteran, is a member of the American Legion, the Vietnam Veteran’s of America and is an honorary member of Rolling Thunder, Chapter 3, Newburgh, New York.
A graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, MN, she spent two years with Bishop O’Grady’s Mission in Burns Lake, British Columbia, followed by two years in the U. S. Army Nurse Corps, serving in Vietnam field hospitals.
She is widely known throughout this area for her work as a Registered Nurse at the Butterfield Memorial Hospital’s Operating and Recovery Rooms from 1976 to 1994. She is currently a Clinical Specialist for Sulzer/Spine Tech, teaching new spinal fusion techniques to operating room staffs throughout the Northeast.
Edie Meeks and her husband, Bill, have been Philipstown residents since 1972 and raised their children, Gwyneth and Bill III, here. Edie belongs to the American Legion, the Putnam County Historical Society, the Friends of Boscobel, the Friends of the Desmond-Fish Library, the Catfish Pond Association, the Old Road Society of Philipstown and the Philipstown Garden Club.
"The Town Council is here to serve all Philipstown and should serve as a unifying force to the entire area. I believe that every resident of Philipstown should feel comfortable in approaching the Council and that their petitions should be acted upon without delay. I pledge to do the very best I can for my constituents in Philipstown and to be responsive to their needs."
