Richard Shea Seeks Seat On Philipstown Town Board

"I would like to introduce myself to members of the community who don’t know me and reintroduce myself to people who do. I am Richard Shea. With the exception of a few brief periods away, I have lived in Philipstown for 39 years. I am a small businessman and a dedicated environmentalist.

"I am one of six sons of the late Philip J. Shea and Patricia Lahey Shea. I attended Our Lady of Loretto Catholic School and went on to high school atHaldane Central. Upon graduation from Haldane I attended the State Universities at Fredonia and Morrisville where I graduated with a degree in Natural Resources Conservation. During my college years I was a member of the College Union Board and Phi Theta Kappa academic fraternity.

"After college graduation I worked for the Forest Service in Bozeman, Montana, and, among other duties, I conducted a water quality study as it related to native fish populations in the Spanish Peaks area. I was also trained as a forest fire fighter and was active on a fire in Idaho.

"I returned to Philipstown and worked as manager of Little Stony Point Park in Cold Spring. During my ten years at the Point, I was involved in replacing the bridge that serves as the entrance to the Park. I worked with elected officials from both parties and Parks Department administrators, completing a project with a proposed budget of one million dollars for under three hundred thousand dollars.

"I was also responsible for events there such as maple syrup day and Earth Day cleanups. I conducted water quality testing, raised public awareness and served as liaison to the NYS Office of Parks. I also served on the Philipstown Conservation Advisory Council.

"I am married to Karen Tauss Shea, formerly of Garrison, and have one son, three-year-old Nolan (a local celebrity). I have two stepchildren, Ian, 19, and Alison, 18 both of whom are attending college.

"I am the owner of Shea Construction, a residential fine home building company. I have built and improved many houses in the area including my own home on East Mountain Road North."
