Constitution Marsh To Open Year-Round
The Constitution Marsh Audubon Center and Sanctuary in Garrison has received funds to convert its seasonal nature center into a year-round educational facility. After more than ten years of operating from May - October, the sanctuary staff are pleased to announce that as of November, 2001, the building will be open for all seasons. Until then, however, the nature center will be closed while the renovations are being completed. The trails and boardwalk will remain open daily, from 9am to 6pm.
The project consists of three phases. Phase 1, the encasement of the building’s foundation, was completed in spring 2000 and was funded by the Hudson River Improvement Fund. The money for phases 2 and 3, now underway, came from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Hudson River Estuary’ Grants Program. Tim Brennan, General Contractor, of Cold Spring was awarded the contract for phase 2, the insulation and sheet rocking of the building’s interior ceilings. The contract for phase 3, the installation of a heating and hot water system. was awarded to the Downey Oil Co., also of Cold Spring.
The sanctuary staff would ask visitors for their patience and cooperation while this much-needed and long-awaited project is being finished Please call (845) 265-2601, Monday-Friday, 9am - 5pm, for more information.
