Ed Engelbride Seeks Re-Election

"Most of you know me and my extensive work and commitment to Philipstown and its people and I believe my record speaks for itself. For those of you that might not know me, I was born, raised and have lived all my life here in Philipstown. I graduated from Haldane in 1952 and started work at IBM, Poughkeepsie from which I retired after 39 years of service. In 1953, 46 years ago, I married my Croton-Harmon High School sweetheart Shirley Ann Dailey-Engelbride. We have raised two wonderful children here in Philipstown: Shirley Ann Culotta and Edward Philip Engelbride. We have four grandchildren; Kira, 12 and Arron, 5, who live in Cold Spring; and Edward, 3.5 and Patrick, 18 months, who live in Plattsburgh. It’s great to be grandparents!

"I am seeking a 5th term on the Philipstown Town Council on which I have enjoyed serving. I believe I have been effective and responsive to the needs of the residents of Philipstown and I hope to be able to continue to do so. For example I have been working with the Highway Superintendent, Roger Chirico, in improving road safety and speed limits. Also, I have been researching and pursuing the Town’s need for land for a salt containment shed and also a much-needed updated Recycling Facility. I’ve been an active member of this community by serving as Assessor for 4 years. I’ve been an active member of the Knights of Columbus #536 fourth Degree. A Founding and Honorary Lifetime Member of the North Highlands Engine Co. # 1. Formerly served as Board of Fire Commissioner for 9 years. Member of the Cold Spring Lions Club. Past President of the Garrison Fish & Game Club and presently serving on Board of Directors. Associate Member of the Cold spring Boat Club. I’ve served my country as a Veteran of the United States Army and I am a Member of the V.F.W. #2362 in Cold Spring. Through these experiences and others I have a good sense of the issues facing our community.

"I am looking forward to working with the new Comprehensive Plan Committee which will address new Zoning & Planning Board matters for a betterment of our community and its government. I enjoy and cherish open space and nature. However, I also believe we should be permanently compensated - paid- for all of the land that has disappeared from our Tax Rolls: Town, County and State Legislation Laws have to be put in place to heighten and relieve the heavy Tax burden we carry for this freedom. We must look ahead and carefully plan for our Senior Citizens by providing larger, more modern facilities and space. We need to provide additional support for recreation programs for our youth.

"In the last 50 years, I have seen quite a few changes that have impacted our community and environment. I am seeking your support in this November’s election, so that 1 may have a voice in future changes. 1 want to express my beliefs and love for our beautiful community, we call Philipstown. I promise to cherish and protect what we call home."
