Brewster Marathon Dedicated To Victims And Families Of WTC

The Putnam County Fall Classic Half-marathon and 5K Race/Walk ,sponsored by the Brewster Rotary, will be run this year to honor those who lost their lives in the September 11th’s terrorist attack on New York City and to show support for their families. Race proceeds usually benefit the many community and international programs supported by the Brewster Rotary; this year, a major portion of the race proceeds will be donated to charities dedicated to support of victims and families of the September 11 tragedy.

The Putnam Visitors Bureau and the Brewster Rotary have joined forces once again this year to present the 6th Annual Putnam County Fall Classic Half-Marathon and 5Krace/walk. The 13.1 mile course starts at the Historic Brewster Village Train Station and runs through the Village of Brewster, the Towns of Southeast and Carmel.

On the route, runners will find beautiful fall scenery surrounding the local reservoir communities. The track is relatively flat and fast with rolling hills to add to the course challenge. Over 350 runners have participated in the race in past years. Runners consider the Putnam Fall Classic a great warm-up for the New York City Marathon.

The 5KRace and Walk will also start at the Brewster Village Train Station and will follow a shorter route through the community. The non-competitive 5% Walk is a rewarding family event made even more meaningful this year as we walk in memory of all who lost their lives in the recent terrorist attacks on the United States.

Larry Walsh, Chair of the Brewster Rotary Race Committee, urges both experienced and noncompetitive runners and walkers to join the Brewster Rotary in support of victims, families and rescue workers.

Awards are provided three deep for men and women in both the Half Marathon and 5K races. Long Sleeve shirts, give-aways and post race refreshments are also offered to all participants. Following the race, runners and their families are invited to celebrate the founding of Brewster Village at the Annual Founder’s Day Street Fair, which will take place on Main Street, Brewster.
