The Philipstown Little League Giants took first place in the Fishkill Fall Junior Division with a record of 10-1. The games were played in Fishkill and at scenic Mayor’s Park on weekends during the fine weather we have had in the early fall. Fresh air, fun and baseball were the rule. Coaches Bill Marsh, Eric Richter and Jim Neville instructed the boys, half of whom were playing on the larger Mayor’s park dimensions for the first time. Led by the older players the team’s younger players jelled to provide a fine mix. Pitching was outstanding led by Tom Costigan, Jason Neville, Will Marsh, and Jake Costigan for most of the season. Greg Halama, Rocco Apollono and David Kinnaird also pitched well in their short stints. Everyone contributed at the plate with all of the above having fine batting seasons. Also contributing at bat were Michael Brutto, Charlie Diamond, Tom and John Szevin and Paul Richter. Fielding was excellent with David Kinnaird at first, Rocco Apollonio, Paul Richter and Michael Brutto at second, Jake Costigan, Tom Costigan and Jason Neville at shortstop, Will Marsh and Greg Halama at third base and Tom Szevin, John Szevin, Charlie Diamond in the outfield and Tom Costigan, Will Marsh, Jake Costigan and Jason Neville at catcher. At an end of season party at Papa John’s all were given trophies. Michael Brutto and John Szevin received sportsmanship awards. With Will Marsh and Jason Neville moving on to the next level the rest of the team is looking to new seasons next spring as well as the fall.
