Head-On Collision Sends Dutchess Woman To Hospital

A two-car, head-on automobile accident in Garrison on May 1st sent a Dutchess County woman to the hospital. According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, at about 6:30 pm on that day, the Sheriff’s Department received a telephone call reporting an automobile accident at the intersection of Route 9D and Route 403. Deputy Sheriff Jason P. Wollman responded to the scene, as did the Garrison Volunteer Fire Department and the Garrison Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Ms. Florence M. Henry, age 19, of Peekskill, was operating a 1994 Chevrolet southbound on Route 9D and turned eastbound onto Route 403. Ms. Henry apparently made the turn too sharply and her car crossed over a double-yellow traffic line into the westbound lane of Route 403. Ms. Henry’s car collided head-on into a 1997 Honda being driven westbound on Route 403 by Ms. Ruan V. Caffero of Beacon.

Ms. Caffero complained of neck pain following the crash and she was taken by the Garrison Ambulance Corps to Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt. No further information regarding her condition is available. Ms. Henry and a passenger in her car, Mr. Clarence Bolton, age 25, of Peekskill, were not injured. It appeared that all three persons involved in the accident were wearing their safety belts at the time of the crash.

Deputy Wollman cited Ms. Henry for driving to the left of a double-yellow pavement marking line, a traffic infraction. The Garrison Volunteer Fire Department assisted the deputy with traffic control at the scene.
