2002 Heartwalk Planned For June 9th At Guidepost In Carmel
RX for fighting heart disease and stroke: take one million feet; donations from family, friends and co-workers; mix in a fun, festive event; repeat annually to make a lasting impression in the fight against America’s leading cause of death and disability.
Thousands of citizens from Putnam County and surrounding areas will make a lasting impression in the fight against heart disease and stroke at the American Heart Walk on Sunday, June 9th at Guidepost in Carmel.
This year they are not only honoring our survivors like Daniel Cassese-Delgado, a 4 year old boy who had heart surgery at the age of 8 months old, because he was diagnose with VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect). But we are also dedicating it to the memory of two very special people, Tony Luccaro and Darlene Purdy.
Tony Luccaro was only 53, when he was stricken by a sudden cardiac arrest. Tony was a kind and generous man who went out of his way to help others. Tony was very active in the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department, the Mahopac Sports Association (often coached two teams a season), the Lake Mahopac Park Committee and the Westchester/Putnam Special Olympics. He was employed by NYS for 30 years and developed group homes for the developmentally disabled.
Tony left a wife of 20 years, Pat and two children, his daughter Jessie, now 19 and his son Alex, now 11.
Darlene Purdy was only 46, she left behind a husband of 17 years, Jerry and her daughter Danielle, 9 years old.
Darlene was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and she encouraged her daughter to join the Auxiliary Juniors. Together they spent many hours supporting Legion activities including making crafts and preparing baked goods, which they delivered to disabled veterans in the Montrose Veterans Hospital.
Please join the Cassese-Delgado, Luccaro and Purdy families in their fight against heart disease and stroke as they gather their family and friends to raise funds for the American Heart Walk on Sunday, June 9th.
If you would like to join the team to help the fight against heart disease and stroke please call the American Heart Association at (845) 225-3700 to request your pledge envelope.
