Median Sales Price Of Putnam County Homes Rises Significantly
The median sales prices for single-family, existing homes in Putnam county rose from $229,000 in March 2001 to $302,000 in March 2002. This represents a percentage of change of +31.9%.
Sales of existing-single family homes in most of New York state were brisk in March despite falling off compared to the exceptionally strong sales in March 2001, according to single-family sales data accumulated by the New York State Association of Realtors. The data showed a median selling price increase of more than 23 percent compared to March 2001.
The March 2002 sales total of 5,537 represents a 4.4-percent decrease from the March 2001 sales total of 5,790. The March sales total rose by nearly 11 percent compared to the February 2002 total of 5,006.
"Although the March sales total was off slightly from a year ago, the New York housing market is thriving in early 2002," said Charles M. Staro, NYSAR chief executive officer. "The decrease in this year’s March sales as compared to 2001 can be attributed to the stronger than usual January and February 2002 sales, when the mild weather brought buyers into the market earlier than usual."
The New York State Association of Realtors is a not-for-profit trade organization representing more than 37,000 of New York state’s real estate professionals.
