Area Residents Meet State And Local Candidates At Event Sponsored By Putnam’s Young Democrats

Putnam Young Democrats with Carl McCall - From Left to Might: Adam Wadler (Treasurer), Wlliam Frost, Daniel Epstein (Membership Coordinator), Arsalan Habeeb (Community Service Coordinator), Jennifer Butler (President), Carl McCall, Cheryl Anne Brummer (Vice President), Christine Spano Furer, and John Coyne.

Democratic candidates for state and focal officers were in Mahopac on Sunday to answer questions from area residents about education, health care, and the environment. Over 50 people attended a "Meet the Candidates" event sponsored by the Putnam Young Democrats at the Country Club at Lake MacGregor to hear from candidates for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Supreme Court Judge, and County Legislature.

Candidates who attended the event included: State Comptroller H. Carl McCall, who is running for Governor; Westchester County Legislator George Latimer and former HUD official (appointed by Bill Clinton) Charlie King from Rockland County who are running for Lieutenant Governor; three candidates for 9th Judicial District Supreme Court, Acting Supreme Court Judge Bruce Tolbert, Harrison Town Judge Marc Lust and Yorktown Town Judge Jeff Cohen; and Putnam County Legislator Sam Oliverio who is seeking re-election. McCall and Latimer, who are both involved in active primary races, have been endorsed by the Putnam County Democratic Committee’s Executive Committee. Sam Oliverio is not expected to have any primary opposition.

Jennifer Butler, President of the Putnam Young Democrats, said, "The Putnam Young Democrats were pleased to provide an opportunity for the community to meet the candidates and ask them questions about important issues. This event was part of our ongoing efforts to build the Democratic Party in Putnam County and to include everyone who is interested in protecting our quality of life."

The Putnam County Democratic Committee holds its County Convention on Tuesday, May 21 at 8pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Fair Street in Carmel.
