Fishkill Woman Killed In One-Car Accident On Rt. 9

A 72-year-old Dutchess County woman, Dorothy M. Carnesale of Fishkill, was killed in an automobile accident on Rt. 9 on Friday morning, July 19th when, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department report, her car struck a tree and careened back onto the road, crossed the northbound lane again and came to a stop in the southbound lane of Rt. 9 near the intersection of Rt. 9 and 301.

Witnesses told sheriff’s investigators that the woman’s car, a 1998 Honda sedan, began to swerve erratically, veered across the northbound lane of the road and onto the northbound shoulder.

Witnesses used cellular telephones to call the Sheriff’s Office to report the accident. Deputy Sheriff William J. Mooney 3d rushed to the scene and was subsequently assisted by other deputies and accident investigators. The North Highland Fire Department, Philipstown Ambulance Corps and ALS paramedic also went to the scene.

The victim was taken by Stat Flight helicopter to the Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla, where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of her death.
