Americans Must Wake Up
Dear Editor,

How safe is our blood supply? Where does the Federal Drug Administration fit in? Why do we have chronic shortfalls of necessary blood supplies? Where do you fit it?

Our nation’s blood supply is very safe because of the comprehensive questions asked of blood donors relative to their personal habits and backgrounds; and the thorough testing of donated blood.

The FDA mandates protocols designed to protect persons who will receive donated blood. These rules insure that there is only a one in 2 to 3 million chance a person will suffer harm because of tainted blood.

The FDA has decided that Euroblood "may" present a risk to patients; and ordered a stop to importation of blood. In addition, persons who’ve lived or vacationed in various countries in Europe, or other countries, may be refused permission to donate blood, because of health conditions in the countries visited. Curtailing donations by well-meaning persons has made current blood supplies even more fragile.

People living in America must wake up. The lives of your family, friends and neighbors depend on you.

Please give blood at North Highlands Fire Department on August 2nd from 3 pm to 8:15 pm. God Bless you all.

Hans Moeller, Chairman

Philipstown Community Blood Drive
