Haldane/Hudson Environmental Learning Program Starting Aug. 5
From August 5-9th, the Haldane School Foundation once again launches the Haldane/Hudson Environmental Learning Program (H.E.L.P.) Summer Institute, with Haldane teachers being immersed - both figuratively and physically - in the Hudson River.
The week-long Hudson River adventure is being run by Linda Richards with the help of Chris Bowser from the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater in cooperation with the area’s leading environmental education programs from:
Audubon Society’s Constitution Marsh, Little Stony Point, GIS software instruction from BOCES instructor, Wayne Gilcrest, Complete with a three hour "working" sail on the famed Sloop Clearwater.
The participating teachers range from elementary through high school with special education, art, science, history, english, and physical education specialties. The teachers reside in Dutchess, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, and Orange counties with some returning for their second year and others new-hires "getting their feet wet" with their fellow professionals before even meeting their students. Teachers have the opportunity of receiving two in-service credits for attending and completing this course. One requirement is that each teacher must write curricula describing how they will use an element of this intensive course in their classroom.
For further information, to attend any or all of the HELP Summer Institute days, to join us on the Clearwater Sail on August 9th from 3-6 pm leaving from City Pier (Yonkers), please call Cecilia Dinio-Durkin 265-1092.
