Haldane Basketball Busy In The Off-Season
by Chris Anderson

Like many of the teams at Haldane High School, the boys and girls basketball teams have been staying sharp in the off-season and improving their skills. The summer is always a great time to develop a stronger game and touch up on bad habits and mistakes that can be corrected. Both of these teams have not taken their time off lightly and have taken advantage of every free second.

The boys’ team has increased their involvement in summer ball this year compared to last. Coach Todd Sims believes that the summer is the most important time for a team to progress and has showed it by entering his team in numerous leagues. The boys play in a league up in Walkill every Tuesday and Thursday, which includes teams such as Highland and Walkill. They also will compete in a two-day tournament in Millbrook at the end of July. The boys also get together on numerous occasions and play pick-up ball with each other, just to increase the amount of time they spend playing as a team. The more they learn how to play with each other, the better they will be when the season rolls around.

The girls have also begun preparing for the upcoming season. Many of the girls on the team played AAU basketball on the Hudson River Rebels, which started at the beginning of spring. The team will also compete in a summer league, which will be held at Haldane High School, and its newly refurbished gym.

Both teams are looking to improve upon last year’s endeavors. The boys have presented themselves as a solid team in their league, and the girls will surely do the same. Stay tuned for a more in-depth update.
