Traffic Infraction Leads to Drug Arrest in Kent
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department reports that on Saturday August 2, at about 11:30 pm, members of the Sheriff’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit were in the area of Glenna Drive in the Town of Carmel when they observed a vehicle operating with an insufficient muffler. A vehicle and traffic stop was conducted and after a check of New York State Department of Motor Vehicle records it was determined that the operator of the vehicle, Frank K. Turner, III of Kent, was operating the vehicle while his privilege to do so had been suspended for an insurance lapse. It was further determined his driver’s license had been expired since September 2002. Mr. Turner was issued summonses for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 3rd Degree, a misdemeanor and Unlicensed Operation and Insufficient Muffler, both violations.
During the investigation, officers also discovered that Turner was in possession of a quantity of marijuana at which point he was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation.
The defendant was released in his own recognizance and is due to return in the Town of Carmel Justice Court on August 11, 2003 at 6 pm.
