Registration Underway for 9th Annual Support-A-Walk

Support Connection, a not-for-profit organization that offers free and confidential support services to people affected by breast and ovarian cancer announces that registration is underway for the 9th Annual Support-A-Walk to be held Sunday, October 5, at FDR State Park, located off the Taconic Parkway on Route 202 in Yorktown Heights. The Walk will begin at 10 am with pre-Walk activities beginning at 9 am. Honorary Chairpersons are actress Glenn Close and First Lady and Child Care Advocate of Westchester Brenda Resnick Spano. The Master of Ceremonies will be Kacey of WHUD.

The purpose of the 3-mile Walk is to increase awareness about breast and ovarian cancer. Participants are invited to walk in celebration and memory of loved ones. Individuals as well as teams of walkers are encouraged to attend. There will be free refreshments for all participants, entertainment and giveaways. All donations received will be used to fund our free services.

There is no registration fee but a free t-shirt will be given as a thank you for donations of $25 or more. Pre-registration is encouraged. Those who pre-register for the Walk will be entered in a "Thank You Drawing," with prizes including gift certificates for dinners, theater and much more. Call (914) 962-6402 for registration forms or information about being a team captain.

The mission of Support Connection is to provide emotional, social, and educational support services to women, their families and friends affected by breast and ovarian cancer. The support provided enables women to help each other and empowers them to become their own health care advocates. Support Connection offers a 24-hour hot line as well as free breast and ovarian cancer support groups and yoga and meditation classes that meet on a regular basis. For more information about the Walk or Support Connection’s services, please call (914) 962-6402 or visit their website www.supportconnection.org.
