Putnam Valley Stages Town Day Parade
by Edward Paul Greiff

The sparse turnout at the July 31 Putnam Valley Town Day parade did not detract from the smart, neatly uniformed color guards, marching bands, firefighters and Emergency Medical Service volunteers from marching down Oscawana Lake Road and showing off their professional marching styles. Nor did the small crowd diminish the enthusiasm of the Scouts, Bees, Cookies, and other marchers who were there to show off their talents.

While it took several months to prepare for last Saturday’s Town Day parade, the event was over in just twenty minutes. Only a handful of people were scattered in pockets along the parade route, and only two dignitaries were in the reviewing stand: Town Supervisor Carmelo Santos and Councilman Dan Ricci. However, this did not dampen the enthusiasm of the participants.

In addition to the aforementioned marchers, the "Few Good Men" motorcycle club revved up their deep-throated cycle sounds and rode in the parade, much to the delight of an appreciative audience.

You couldn’t help take a trip down nostalgia lane when the shiny, meticulously restored antique classic cars from the "Road Knights" Car Club drove by.

While the 95 degree heat and high humidity may have kept a bigger crowd away, those lucky few who did come out enjoyed the show, thanks to the hard work of the Town Day Committee volunteers.
