Trio Charged in Burglary of Patterson Condo

Putnam County Sheriff Smith reports that burglary charges have been filed against Ms. Michelle Faranda, aged 22, of Lake Carmel, Mr. Sean Candela, aged 20, of Carmel, and Mr. Joshua Decker, aged 25, of Brewster. The trio allegedly broke into a residence in the Fox Run Condominium complex in Patterson on July 22, 2004 and stole about $3,000 in cash.

According to the Police report, the defendants gained access into the condo unit by ripping a screen on a rear window. One of them then crawled through the window and unlocked the back door of the unit to admit the other accomplices. Once all three were inside, they stole a safe containing about $3,000 in currency.

No one was at home in the unit when the break-in occurred. A resident returned home later in the evening, discovered the theft, and notified the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriffs Investigator Anthony Nappi investigated the case and developed leads tying the defendants to the burglary. Investigator Nappi arrested Ms. Faranda on July 23, and apprehended Messrs. Candela and Decker on July 24th Authorities recovered the stolen safe and a portion - $1,649 - of the cash proceeds of the theft.

The defendants are charged with Burglary in the Second Degree, which is a class C felony punishable by up to fifteen years imprisonment and a fine of up to $5,000. All three defendants were booked, arraigned, and then released pending court appearances in the Patterson Justice Court on August 4th.
