President Bush is the One Who Should Be Embarrassed
To the Editor:
Although Sister Mary Martin wrote last week that she, being Irish, was embarrassed that President Bush encountered aggressive questioning from the Washington Correspondent of the Irish News Service, Carole Coleman, I would say the real embarrassment here is that President Bush hasn’t encountered it more often. Had our own media had the opportunity, and the will, to question him more fully in the days leading up to Iraq, it might have been more widely known that our leader’s information was faulty and that he had no plan beyond shock and awe. In listening to the interview at http://www.rte.ie/news/2004/0624/primetime.html it was Ms. Coleman that I had sympathy for. She withstood the withering contempt of a President, who believes a reporter’s job is to be no more than a stenographer for his statements, quite admirably.
