Florence S. Kane

Florence S. Kane of Tarrytown, NY, and longtime resident of Cold Spring, NY, and of North Tarrytown (Sleepy Hollow), passed away on July 31, 2004.

Mrs. Kane was born on January 8, 1921 to Edward Raymond and Elizabeth Gainor Simpson in New York City, NY. She was a graduate of Notre Dame de Lourdes Academy and Good Counsel College. She received her master’s degree from Columbia University School of Library Science. Florence was the beloved wife of Walter T. Kane for 52 years, until his passing on November 7, 2002. She was the Director of the Warner Public Library in Tarrytown, NY and served as librarian for Mary Immaculate High School in Ossining, Transfiguration School in Tarrytown, Fordham University in the Bronx, NY, Regis High School in New York City and New York Public library in Manhattan. She was past president of Good Counsel Alumnae Association and President of St. Teresa’s PTA in Sleepy Hollow/North Tarrytown.

She is survived by her loving children - daughters Elizabeth Blanc of Paris, France and Deborah of San Francisco and sons Gregory of Somers and Michael of Cortlandt, NY, as well as seven grandchildren.

A wake was held on Monday, August 2nd at The Coffey Funeral Home in Tarrytown. A Funeral Mass was held at 10 am on Tuesday, August 3rd at St Augustine’s Church in Ossining. The Interment followed at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne. Donations can be made to the Building Fund for Our Lady of Lorretto Church in Cold Spring and to Hospice of Westchester and Putnam.
