Antonia Godsey, Former Cold Spring Mayor, Passes Away


Antonia Godsey, age 49, a lifelong Cold Spring resident died on Saturday May 21, 2005 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, NY.

Born in Cold Spring on August 23, 1955, she is the daughter of Carmelo and Concetta (Giachinta) Garufi of Cold Spring, NY.

Mrs. Godsey was an Attorney working for Legal Services of the Hudson Valley in White Plains, NY. She worked as legal counsel for victims of domestic violence in Westchester and Putnam counties. She is the former Mayor of the Village of Cold Spring serving as such from 1989-91. She was also a Parishioner of Our Lady of Loretto Church, a member of the New York State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Mrs. Godsey served as President of CCART, an organization of residents for clean up of the former Marathon Battery site in Cold Spring. She also served as legal counsel for NY State Senator Pedro Espada of the Bronx, NY.

In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband, Richard Godsey of Cold Spring, one step-son Christopher Godsey of Cold Spring, one brother, Anthony Garufi of Cold Spring, and two sisters, Rosanne Peparo of Cold Spring and Regina Houston of Wappinger Falls, NY. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 26 at Our Lady of Loretto Church at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Cold Spring Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Clinton Funeral Home Corner of Parrott and Pine St. Cold Spring on Wednesday, May 25 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Donations may be made to The Susan G.
