PVHS Jeanne Marie Coppa Receives Loews Coporation Special Scholarship Award

Putnam Valley High School’s Jeanne Marie Coppa is the recipient of the Loews Corporation 2005 Special Scholarship Award. The award certificate was presented to Miss Coppa by Andrew Tisch, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Loews at a special ceremony at the corporate headquarters in New York City. Ms. Coppa will enter the College of Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts in the fall.

The Loews scholarship is administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which identifies recipients on the basis of test scores, academic record, leadership, significant extra curricular accomplishments and other standard requirements of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Miss Coppa has a distinguished record in the areas of academics, music, public service and sports, and has received numerous awards and honors. She was inducted into the National Honor Society, the Math Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society, and received the Scholar Athlete Award. She also served as her school’s Junior Class Treasurer and Senior Class Representative. Among her other interests are varsity softball, the jazz band, and student government. She also served as a mentor to middle school students, addressing their future move to high school and other teenage issues. Her enjoyment of physics and science led her to chose biology as a major in college, where she will enroll in the pre-med program. Coppa resides with her parents and brother in Putnam Valley.

"We believe in the importance of education and the value of encouraging young people to achieve academically," said Andrew Tisch. " Jeanne Marie’s achievements span many areas and I am certain that she will excel in her college career and beyond," he said. "We are pleased to contribute to the educational career of such an outstanding student."
