Margurite A. Griefer

Margurite A. Griefer, age 81, of West Milford, NJ, formerly a longtime Nelsonville resident, died on Sunday, June 5, 2005 at Milford Manor, New Milford, NJ.

Born in Oil City, Louisiana on December 31,1923, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Owen Thomas.

Mrs. Griefer was a travel consultant for Gulf and Western Industries in New York. She was a Women’s Army Air Corps veteran having served during WWII as a chauffer from 1943-1945. Mrs. Griefer was a former member of the Philipstown Garden Club and the Nelsonville Fire Company’s Ladies Auxiliary.

Margurite Griefer is survived one daughter, Myra Mekeel, of West Milford, NJ, one son, Thomas W. Mekeel, Sr. of Fishkill, NY, and four grandchildren, Kimberly A. Knight, Thomas W. Mekeel, Jr., Kenneth W. Mekeel, and William R. Mekeel. Three great grandchildren, Alexandria E. Knight, Dyllon M. Knight, and Jake L. Knight also survive.

Funeral services will be private. Arrangements under the direction of Clinton Funeral Home, Corner of Parrott and Pine Streets, Cold Spring. Donations may be made in Mrs. Griefer’s name to the Putnam County Humane Society, PO Box 297, Carmel, NY 10512.
