State Assembly-Approved Legislation Saves Putnam Community Hospital $1 Million
Stephens gives thumbs up to health care reform bill.
Assemblyman Willis H. Stephens, Jr. (R-Brewster) joined his Assembly colleagues in passing historic health care reform legislation on Jan. 16 that will address the shortage of health care workers and financially strengthen health care facilities.
"I’m pleased to announce that this legislation will assist health care facilities like Putnam Community Hospital, which will save approximately $1 million over the next four years," Stephens said "This health care reform also provides assistance to some of the lowest-paid health care workers, showing how much our society values those people whose career it is to help others."
Stephens says the bill provides significant assistance to the health care industry by financially strengthening hospitals, nursing homes and other health care facilities, while increasing funding for other important health care programs.
"By providing Medicaid coverage for breast and cervical cancer treatment, this legislation gives New Yorkers the opportunity to enjoy the golden years of their lives," Stephens said.
Stephens added the reform bill also funds Medicaid and public health programs for the next fiscal year without substantial cuts, and provides malpractice coverage above a doctor’s primary coverage through the continuation of the Medical Malpractice Excess Program.
"We have all, at one time or another, needed the care of health care workers," Stephens said. "This health care reform legislation gives health care workers much-needed assistance, and encourages others to enter the field. Meanwhile, New Yorkers are provided with the best facilities and programs possible."
