Iron Gallery

John Plunkett for the month of June. An artist's reception will be held Sunday, June 8 from 1-5 pm. There will also be a first Friday of the month celebration, Fri., June 6

Plunkett has a B.F.A. in Fine Arts and Illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and an M.F.A. in Fine Arts in Painting and Sculpture from the

focused use of color and a style following the path broken by the Impressionists, John Plunkett transports those who view his work into a beautiful, quiet place." To

Solo Exhibit by Pop Artist Leslie Lew at Flat Iron Gallery
The Flat Iron Gallery of Peekskill, will have a solo exhibit of sculpted paintings by the renowned contemporary "pop artist" Leslie Lew, entitled
Objects, In and Out! The exhibit will be on display from Fri., May 2 until Sat., May 31 . An artist's reception will be held Sat., May 3 from 4-7pm. Friday evening, May 2, the gallery
will stay open until 8pm for a special "First Friday of the Month" celebration where guests can preview the show. Works can also be previewed on www.leslielew.com.
Lew is a graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago and has been a professor of art and a visiting artist at the College of New Rochelle and the Westchester Art
Workshop. She has had numerous solo and museum exhibitions in New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, East Hampton, Palm Beach, Florida and local galleries like the Celia
Hirsch Gallery in Chappaqua. In 2005 Lew received a grant from the Westchester Arts Council and wrote and illustrated a children's book,
Buki's Garden to teach children tolerance. She has been an active member of the Katonah Gallery's Artist Association and has been published in
Art Business News, the N.Y. Times, The
Westchester WAG; Arts Magazine, and many other local papers and magazines.
Leslie's style and technique is called "sculpted oil, and it is really between painting and sculpture". `The artist states: I begin with a drawing, which I do directly
on the canvas. I then apply mounds of acrylic titanium white paint on the areas I choose to make in relief. When dry, I start painting with a thick application of oil paint
with brushes, wet on wet, until the scene is completed." Lew's paintings have bold, vivid color and are of popular subjects that pertain to American culture such as city
scenes, interiors of stores and markets, comic strip action scenes, etc.
The gallery is open Thursday through Sunday from 12-6pm and by appointment. The Flat Iron Gallery also houses three other exhibit rooms displaying fine art,
pottery, glass and handcrafted jewelry by over 100 area artists. For more information, call director Wendie Garber, 914-734-1894 or visit www.flatiron.qpg.com.
