Description
Haldane serves a 32 square mile area in the town of Philipstown and includes the
villages of Cold Spring and Nelsonville. A suburban community, Philipstown enjoys the
advantages of the picturesque Hudson Valley and country living within 55 miles of New York
City. The Haldane staff includes 75 professionals and 52 support staff members.
The Haldane Central School District takes pride in offering a comprehensive program
which provides a broad and rich curriculum in each instructional area. The district's well
experienced and highly professional faculty is actively involved in a broad range of
ongoing school improvement and professional development efforts.
The district's elementary school, junior high school and high school educate a total of
890 students. The elementary school offers a full time kindergarten. Haldane Elementary
School received accreditation from the Middle States Association in 1988 and was
nationally recognized for excellence by the U.S. Department of Education in the same year.
Haldane Jr/Sr High School combines a small, friendly atmosphere with a broad and
comprehensive high school program. Students may take honors and advanced placement courses
in the core academic subjects and college credit for some courses is available through a
partnership with SUNY Albany. An alternative program is also available to Haldane
students. A majority of the student body is involved in a broad range of extra curricular
activities. Almost all Haldane Jr/Sr High School students participate in one of many
interscholastic sports programs. Approximately 85% of Haldane's seniors continue their
education after graduation.
