Butterfield Library To Hold Antique Appraisal Day
The Butterfield Library in Cold Spring will be holding its own version of the "Antique Road Show" on Saturday, February 12th with the help of Ronald DeSilva, a nationally recognized authority on fine and decorative arts.
The public is invited to bring their treasures and collectibles to Mr. DeSilva for appraisals at the library from 10am to 2pm. There will be a fee of $8 per item, or 3 items for $20. Appraisals will be verbal. All proceeds will benefit the Butterfield Library.
This is the perfect opportunity to have your heirlooms, or flea market finds properly appraised. If an item is too big to actually bring, Polaroids may be used. All items are covered except currency, stamps and books. Knowing the history and value of an item may help to decide whether to insure it or sell it at your next garage sale. No matter, bring it along, and have the fun of meeting others with their "wannabe treasures."
The Butterfield Library is honored to have Mr. DeSilva present for this event. He has headed the American furniture departments at Sotheby Parke Bernet and Christie’s. His articles have appeared in antique and decorative arts publications. He is recognized nationally from his TV appearances, as well as by lectures at universities, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Smithsonian Institution. Mr. DeSilva is also a consultant for museums and historic restorations.
The Library is located just north of the intersection of Main Street and Route 9D in Cold Spring. Parking is available in the rear of the library on Fishkill Ave. For additional information, call the Butterfield Library at 265-3040.
