Hugh McMahon
Hugh McMahon, age 74, of Cold Spring, died on Saturday, January 29, 2000 at Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt Manor.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland on April 25, 1925, he was the son of the late Patrick and Margaret (McLoughlin) McMahon.
Mr. McMahon was a retired Frameman for NY Telephone and retired in 1988, having worked in the Poughkeepsie area for 36 years. He was a Cold Spring area resident for the past 36 years, coming from Mexico and Maine. A parishioner of Our Lady of Loretto Church in Cold Spring, Mr. McMahon was a veteran of the British Merchant Marine, traveling the world.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Patricia L. (Sparkes) McMahon, who died on August 17, 1990. They were married on November 21, 1959 in St. Patrick’s Chapel in NY, NY.
He is survived by one daughter, Lynette M. Leifels of Bethel, CT; one brother, Frank McMahon of Glasgow, Scotland; two sisters, Mary Hooper of Toronto, Canada and Margaret Berry of Orlando, FL.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2000 at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Cold Spring at 10am. Interment will follow in Cold Spring Cemetery, under the direction of Clinton Funeral Home, Cold Spring.
Alphonsine V. Simpson
Alphonsine V. Simpson, age 64, of Kent, NY, formerly a long-time Cold Spring area resident, died on Monday, January 31, 2000 at her residence.
Born in Eagle Butte, SD on August 11, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Delphine Hennessy Garreaux.
Mrs. Simpson was a homemaker and a resident of Kent for the past six years, coming from Elizaville and Cold Spring.
She was predeceased by her husband, George A. Simpson, who died January 16, 1992. She is survived by four sons, George of Sanford, NC, Robert of Kent, Christopher of Poughkeepsie and Michael of Kent; three daughters, Shirley Conley of Cold Spring, Roberta Cook of Beacon and Mary Jo Fayo of Kent; four brothers, Alfonso Garreau of Dupree, SD, Romey Garreau of Eagle Butte, SD, Tracey Garreau of Swift-Bird, SD, and Melvin Garreau of Eagle Butte; five sisters, Shirley Christenson of Auburn, WA, Verna Garreau of Eagle Butte, Fay Garreau of Anchorage, AK, Serena Garreau of Eagle Butte, Melinda Garreau of Eagle Butte; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Simpson was predeceased by three sons, Todd, Mark and Stephen Simpson; and one daughter, Margaret Simpson; five brothers, Gibson, Frankie, Manson, Harold Lee and Gilbert Garreau; and two sisters, Phylis Fay and Gertrude Melinda.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 4, 2000 at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Cold Spring at 10am under the direction of the Clinton Funeral Home. Interment will be private.
