OBITUARIES

Robert C. Walker

Robert C. Walker, age 77, died on Wednesday, May 3, 2000 at his residence in Garrison.

Born on February 20, 1923 in Natick, MA, he was the son of the late G. Harold and Lillian Seville Walker.

On June 6, 1947, he married Barbara Curtis of Garrison. Mr. Walker was a WW II Army Veteran and a retired self-employed house painter.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Barbara, in clude one son, Robert C. Walker Jr. of Wake Forest, NC; two stepsons, Gerald E. Bowden of Garrison and Rodger Bowden of Chicopee, MA; two brothers, William L. Walker of FL and George H. Walker Jr. of MA; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Services took place on Friday, May 5, 2000 at 11am at St. Philip’s Church in the Highlands, Garrison. Burial followed in the family plot in St. Philip’s Cemetery, under the direction of the Clinton Funeral Home, Cold Spring.

The family has requested that donations be made to the Garrison Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Garrison, NY 10524.

 

Abby H. Hartman

Abby H. Hartman, age 82, of Garrison, NY died on Tuesday, May 2, 2000 at her residence in Garrison.

Born in Barberton, OH on September 12, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Euna (Berry) Huston.

Mrs. Hartman was the librarian for Haldane High School in Cold Spring, NY from 1966 until her retirement in 1983. She had been a resident since 1957. Abby was a member of the Philipstown Garden Club; member of St. Philip’s Church in the Highlands since 1957; member of the Philipstown Republican Committee since 1960, serving as Chairwoman from 1964 to 1993; served 3 times as a NY State Republican Committee Woman; past President and Member of Putnam County Republican Women; member of the founding committee for the Desmond-Fish Library in Garrison; and hostess for the Republican Open Houses at her residence in Garrison since the 1970’s.

She is survived by her husband, Fred C. Hartman of the home address; two daughters, Tamma Cain of Garrison and Susan Gould of Reno, NV; four stepdaughters, Ann Zielinski of Fairfield, CT, Dr. Jean Hartman of Milltown, NJ, Susan Puckett of Denver, CO and Cynthia Karam of Akron, OH; one stepson, Ross E. Hartman of Brandon, FL; one brother, Ralph Huston of Richland, NC; eight step grandchildren and 2 step great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was offered at St. Philip’s Church in the Highlands on Saturday, May 6. A private cremation had taken place earlier, under the direction of the Clinton Funeral Home, Cold Spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Garrison Volunteer Fire Company, the Garrison Volunteer Ambulance Corps or St. Philip’s Church in the Highlands.

James F. Hunter

James F. Hunter, of Putnam Valley, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000 at Hudson Valley Hospital Center. He was 57.

Mr. Hunter was a member of the Philipstown Masonic Lodge #236 in Nelsonville.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Hunter and his daughter, Rebecca, both of Putnam Valley; sisters Barbara Stone of Delhi, NY and Joan Guiliano of Long Island.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at the Church of the North American Martyrs, Putnam Valley.
