Richard Hastede Extends Taps Streak To 50 Years
Richard Hastede, life-long resident of the Cold Spring/Nelsonville area played Taps at a Memorial Day service for the first time while playing in the Haldane School band in 1951. He subsequently played for the Cold Spring VFW for the next 36 years. In 1987 Dick joined the Blue Crew Marching band and has continued to participate in a Memorial Day service by playing Taps in various village Memorial Day celebrations in the Westchester/Putnam area. This year Dick was honored by the Blue Crew Marching band by having this accomplishment listed on their web site.
