West Nile Virus Found In Putnam County Dead sparrow found in Village of Brewster
The Putnam County Health Department has received notification from the New York State Department of health that a sparrow in Putnam County has tested positive for West Nile Virus. The bird was foundin the Village of Brewster, in the Town of Southeast. As of August 3, no mosquito or human cases have testedpositive for the virus. Upon notification from the New York State Department of Health of the positive bird, the Department responded immediately by applying larvicide to this area. In accordance with the plan developed by the Putnam County Health Department, the Department will intensify mosquito surveillance and control activities.
