NYS Record High Seat Belt Use Recorded Again
NY State Police Superintendent James W. McMahon announced that average statewide safety belt use was measured at 86 percent, establishing a record high for the second time this year. The record use followed multi-agency, zero tolerance enforcement efforts conducted between September 8-17, 2000, in conjunction with the Buckle Up New York Campaign. Use was measured at 82 percent prior to the enforcement wave. In making the announcement, Superintendent McMahon was joined by Miss New York State, Kelly Falgiano, who on September 8, 2000, kicked off the enforcement wave as part of her continuing efforts to protect children.
