Garrison School Board Schedules Four Open Meetings For Community To Meet The Four Superintendent Finalists Board member Gerry Mahoney (Baldwin) resigns
The meeting of the Board of Education of the Garrison Union Free School District opened on October 4, 2000 with an attendance report from the Interim Superintendent Gary Loewenberg. In his report he stated that all districts are required to do this by October 1st every year. The total number of students attending the Garrison School is 271, as opposed to last year when the total was 283. What is interesting to note, according to Mr. Loewenberg, is that last year the Kindergarten had 31 students and First Grade had 30. This year the numbers have increased to 36 and 34 respectively. He further stated that there is always a drop off in students in 7th and 8th grade, usually because the students leave for private schools and that an up-to-date demographic study is needed. Linda Sweeney and Linda Lomonaco, in the audience, interjected that Ms. Sweeney had, in fact, done an in-depth study with Ms. Lomonaco not long ago and the outcome is in the school files.
