Philipstown Garden Club Organizes Another Successful Adopt-A-Highway Program
Once again the community pulled together to clean up some of the local roads. Initiated by the Philipstown Garden Club five years ago, John D. Svirsky, Inc., the Walter Hoving Home, Cold Spring Lions Club, Outward Bound, the 403 Group and the Cold Spring/Garrison Area Chamber of Commerce have now joined forces with the Garden Club to clean a much bigger area. Trash was collected on Route 9D from the Bear Mountain Bridge to Cold Spring and Route 403 was cleaned from 9D to Route 9. The "fruits" of their labor were the orange bags lining the roadways, a testimony to the amount of trash collected. The effort is sponsored by the New York State Department of Transportation and the roads are cleaned two to three times a year by volunteers. Pictured above, on their way to adopt their portion of the highway are Carol Newman, back to camera, with her father and Vicki Albanese. Both ladies are members of the Philipstown Garden Club.
