Driving Safely Is Your Most Important Call - Sheriff Thoubborn Says
You are stopped at a red light. The light turns green and you start through the intersection only to slam on your brakes to barely miss another car running a red light. You notice the driver has a cell phone glued to his ear. Most people are pretty sure that cell phone usage while driving is an increased risk. Research done at the University of Toronto indicates that during the first 15 minutes of a phone call your chances of having an accident are quadrupled. In Canada, where research into phone bills and the times of day calls are made is allowed, 699 accidents of cell phone owners were reviewed. It was no surprise to find these drivers were involved in some way with the phone when the accidents occurred.
