Garrison School Picks New Superintendent

New school superintendent Ellen Bergman is welcomed to the district by BOE President Cathy Lilburne and Vice-President Stan Freilich.

The Garrison School Board of Education announced on Monday, November 6, the selection of Ellen Bergman, Ed.D, as the new superintendent of the Garrison Union Free School District.

Dr. Bergman graduated from Boston University, received her masters degree from Hunter College, and her doctorate from Columbia University’s Teachers College. With an extensive background in education, she is currently superintendent of Henry Viscardi School in Albertson, New York, a preK - 12 comprehensive academic and related service program for 235 multi-disabled students.

Dr. Bergman will take up her new position in Garrison on January 1, 2001. Interim Superintendent Gary Loewenberg will continue to serve until December 31, 2000.
