Jeanne Hackett displays her "True Spirit Award" at the 35th Anniversary Awards Dinner

The Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corps recently celebrated their 35th anniversary with an awards dinner held at the Holiday Inn in Fishkill. Officers were installed and awards were given to volunteers for their unselfish efforts at serving the Philipstown area.

The installation of officers was performed by Philipstown Supervisor William Mazzuca. They are:

Dan Valentine - President

Gary Conklin - Vice Pres.

Tom Monroe - Treasurer

Patty Nelson - Secretary

Bob Christie - Director

Russ Terio - Bldg. Manager

John Egger - Captain

Tracey Hyatt - 1st Lt.

Patty Nelson - 2nd Lt.

Ralph Sheehan - Engineer

The PVAC responded to 309 calls for the year 1999. The top three responders were recognized for answering the highest amount of calls during the year. They were: Bob Christie, with 129 calls; Dan Valentine, with 87 calls; and Russ Terio, with 84 calls.

Life Saving Awards were also given to volunteers. This award is for members who responded to a call, and whose actions during that call literally meant life or death for that patient. Those receiving the Life Saving Award this year are: Dan Valentine (two), FJ Spinelli, Patrick O’Dell, Tom Monroe, Patty Nelson, George Hyatt, Scott Powell and Barry Rosen.

The True Spirit Award was given to Jeanne Hackett. Tom Monroe was presented the Geraldine Halpin Award. John Egger was honored with Member of the Year.

Dan Valentine received an award for his continued exemplary efforts as a member of the corps for the good of the community.

Captain Debbie Weeks from the Putnam Valley Volunteer Ambulance Corps presented the PVAC with a plaque honoring the organization with 35 years of service. Operations Manager of Sloper-Willen, Bruce Heats, also presented the corps with a 35th Anniversary plaque.

The Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corps is always looking for volunteers to assist them in the day-to-day operations of the Corps. Anyone wishing to give some time and lend a hand can call 265-2103 for information.
