Gary Watkins Seeks Re-Election To Nelsonville Village Board

Village of Nelsonville Trustee Gary Watkins is running for re-election in the March 20th village elections. Mr. Watkins has been a village trustee for the past two years, being elected in the 1999 election.

Mr. Watkins states that he has enjoyed representing the residents of Nelsonville for the last two years and is eager to continue. He had pledged in the ‘99 election to be an active representative of the residents and feels over the past two years he has done that. Mr. Watkins has attended every village board meeting and special workshops over the past two years. He has attended numerous meetings hosted by Putnam County Officials, including meetings on the west-nile virus, emergency management readiness, and part-nering with the county. Mr. Watkins has also represented Nelsonville at meetings with New York State, many with the State Department of Transportation during the Main Street road construction during the last two years.

Watkins pledges to continue to be an active trustee representing the residents of Nelsonville. Watkins has worked with Mayor Merando to get the Village Green Park completed, assisted in the Open Space property and was there for the Main Street construction project. Mr. Watkins also has volunteered his time doing weekly maintenance at the village office, a cost saving for the village.

Watkins states he will continue to be an active Trustee for the Village and wants to continue the work of representing the residents. He would like to see continuing work on maintenance of the village streets, along with repair of sidewalks. Watkins stated the village would keep active in seeking grants from government agencies and continue to work together with the county and town. Watkins wants to see the great work that has been done on the village’s hiking trails to continue, for enjoyment of the residents and others.

Mr. Watkins will continue to serve the residents while he keeps in mind that the little village is a unique and deserving community. Mr. Watkins urges everyone to vote on Election Day, March 20th.
