Mitzvah Day April 29
The third annual area Mitzvah Day is coming on Sunday, April 29. The event represents one day of concerted volunteer effort by hundreds of mid-Hudson Valley residents, uniting to benefit a wide array of community agencies and public facilities. Volunteer projects will run the gamut from sedentary indoor activity to invigorating outdoor work, with special opportunities for family groups and senior citizens to participate. A sampling of those who will benefit from the work of the Mitzvah Day volunteer teams includes the ASPCA, REHAB Programs, Inc., Dutchess Outreach/Lunch Box, veterans at Castle Point, area parks and non-profit camps, Rhinebeck Performing Arts Center, Scenic Hudson, and the historic Gomez Mill House in Marlboro. A blood drive and bone marrow matching drive will also be held throughout the day at the Jewish Community Center in Poughkeepsie. A light breakfast and a celebratory dinner will be provided at no charge for all volunteers, and limited childcare will be available.
