Cormorants Land At The Garrison School
Garrison School fifth graders were treated to a special presentation in their enrichment program about the Cormorant controversy facing many New Yorkers. Pete Salmansohn, an educator with Constitution Marsh Sanctuary, graciously volunteered his time to present in-depth workshops about this controversial topic. Students were engaged in role-playing, problem-solving and research. The culminating activity was a town debate, in which students portrayed fishermen, naturalists, politicians and representatives of the Bureau of Tourism. A rewarding experience for our fifth graders or to quote 5th grader Emily Marsh, "it was the experience of a lifetime."
