Garrison School Board Holds Public Budget Hearing Residents get to vote on budget this Tuesday
The Garrison School Board held a public budget hearing on Tuesday, May 1, in the school cafeteria. Superintendent Ellen Bergman presented the proposed 2001-2002 budget in its entirety, beginning with a list of important budget-related dates. Hard copies of the budget have been available at the school since April 24; a mailing about the budget will go out to Garrison residents the week of May 7; and the public budget vote and trustee election will take place on Tuesday, May 15. Town Looks To Build On Philipstown 2020 Success Contract signed with Highway Dept workers
At the May 3 meeting of the Philipstown Town Board, Susan Bates, Chairperson of the Steering Committee for the Philipstown 2020 planning forum, reported that the event had been a big success, with over 200 individuals from the Town in attendance over the April 27-29 weekend. Supervisor William Mazzuca and the Town Board singled out Ms. Bates for praise for her work in organizing Philipstown 2020. "This would not have happened if not for Susan Bates," said Mazzuca, who thanked all of the people who attended the planning forum. Full Story
Largest Shadbush In State Found In Putnam County
A giant Shadbush, (a.k.a. Serviceberry, Juneberry; usually only a shrub), was found recently in Philipstown measuring 65 feet high, with a 90-inch circumference. This far exceeded the next largest Shadbush in New York State, which was verified this week by the State DEC Full Story

Lower Main Street Work Gets Underway In Cold Spring
Workers from KECT Construction Co. of Patterson were busy on Tuesday morning, tearing out the surface of lower Main Street in Cold Spring. They were preparing to remove the "hump" in the road and begin the resurfacing process. The Mayor's office told the PCN&R that the road should be reopened to traffic by this weekend. The work will continue after that and should be finished, except for the landscaping, by the Memorial Day weekend. Full Story
