Sheriff’s Report
Sheriff Robert D. Thoubboron reports that on June 11, 2001 at approximately 8:00pm a 2001 Subaru, driven by Thomas Martin, age 36 of Brewster, was traveling southbound on Route 121 In the Town of Southeast when he apparently lost control of his vehicle. Mr. Martin traveled up over the guardrail, overturned and then struck a tree. The Sheriff’s Department along with the Brewster Fire Department and Ambulance responded to the scene. Mr. Martin was pronounced dead at the scene by coroner Dr. Chang. There were no other passengers in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The cause of the accident is still under Investigation.
On June 15th, at approximately 12:20am, Melissa Sullivan, age 21, Salt Point, New York, Melissa Longo, age 21, of Poughkeepsie, Ryan Jawor, age 21, of Beacon, and Charles Hardy, age 21, of, Poughkeepsie, were arrested for Trespass, a violation. Lindsay Smith, age 19, of Oceanside, California and Nicole Teed, age 20, of Poughkeepsie, were also arrested for Trespass and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana both violations.
The arrests were the result of observations by the routine patrol of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputies. Deputies observed two vehicles parked along Route 9D in the area of the Breakneck Tunnel, in the Town of Philipstown. Investigation revealed that the six subjects had unlawfully entered land owned by New York State Parks and Recreation. The four subjects (Melissa Longo, Charles Hardy, Ryan Jawor, Melissa Sullivan) were charged with Trespass and Ms. Smith and Ms. Teed were charged with Trespass and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. Ms. Smith was charged and released on $100 bail, the rest were released on their own recognizance. The subjects are to appear on July 19, 2001 in the Town of Philipstown.
On June 10, 2001 at approximately 6:30pm Cefas Salazar, age 25, Samuel Espana, age 24, Sercho Salazar, age 21, a 17 year old, Marvin Soto, age 27, and Julio Sandoval, age 25, all residing in the Village of Brewster, were arrested for Assault 3rd Degree a class A misdemeanor.
The Sheriff’s Department received a complaint of a fight in progress on Route 6 in Town of Southeast. Upon arrival Sheriff’s Deputies found four subjects who appeared to have been beaten. Investigation revealed that four vehicles had stopped on Route 6 after returning from a soccer game in Danbury, an argument ensued. Investigation revealed that the victims knew two of their assailants, Mr. Soto and Mr. Sandoval who were located in the Village of Brewster.
On June 12, 2001 at approximately 5.40pm a Personal Injury Automobile Accident occurred on Route 311 in the Town of Patterson. Catherine Budakowski, age 41 of Patterson and Todd Bach, age 29 of Yonkers, were traveling eastbound on Route 311 when Ms. Budakowski stated her steering was not working and lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle ran off the roadway then came back on the roadway, crossed over the westbound lane and struck a tree. Ms. Budakowski was transported by Patterson Ambulance to Putnam Hospital Center with neck and back pain. Mr. Bach was also transported to Putnam Hospital Center as a precaution. The accident is still under Investigation.
On June 12, 2001 at approximately 7:30am a Personal Injury Automobile Accident occurred on Cornwall Hill Road, Town of Patterson. Thomas Ehret, age 52 of Carmel, was driving a Carmel School bus south bound on Cornwall Hill Road when he had to stop suddenly for a dump truck that stopped in front of the bus. Chris Scrivanos, age 33 of Wingdale, was driving a 1995 Jeep which was unable to stop in time and ran into the back of the school bus. The bus was carrying 15 children who were transported along with both drivers by Patterson, Putnam Lake, Brewster, Carmel and Lake Carmel ambulances to Putnam Hospital Center for minor Injuries.
On June 15, 2001 at approximately 6:45pm Arthur Tatnell, age 47 of Putnam Valley, was arrested for Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest and Assault 3rd Degree, all Misdemeanors.
The Sheriff’s Department received a complaint from a Putnam Valley resident of an assault in progress. Upon arrival, Deputies spoke to the complainant who stated that Mr. Tatnell came to the residence and began yelling then barged into the home and assaulted the complaints, causing Injuries. Mr. Tatnell was place under arrest. Mr. Tatnell had to be restrained while being placed in custody. Mr. Tatnell was processed and released on $250 bail pending a scheduled court appearance in the Town Putnam Valley on June 28, 2001.
Sheriff Thoubboron reports that after a four-week investigation, two Putnam Lake youths have been arrested for distributing marihuana and hallucinogens in the Putnam Lake area.
The first youth was arrested on June 7, 2001 after the he made sales of marihuana and PCP to an undercover Deputy Sheriff. The investigation revealed that the youth was making regular sales to the younger people in the Putnam Lake area. The subject was arraigned in front of Patterson Town Justice John King and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility on $1000 cash / $3000 bond for a future appearance in Patterson Town Court.
The first youth is a male, 17 years old. He was charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd, Class B Felony; Criminal Possession Controlled Substance 3rd, Class B Felony; Criminal Sale Marihuana 4th, a Misdemeanor; Unlawful Possession Marihuana, a Violation.
The investigation revealed that the second youth was an associate of the first. The youth was taken into custody after turning himself into the Sheriffs Department on June 12. He was arraigned in front of Patterson Town Justice Roger Tricinelli and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility on $2000 cash / $4000bond for a future appearance in the Town of Patterson Justice Court.
The second youth is a male, 17 years old. He was charged with Criminal Sale Marihuana 4th, a Misdemeanor.
The names of both youths were withheld because they are eligible for Youthful Offender Status.
